The Co-operative University of Kenya hosted a 2-day capacity building workshop dubbed CAK-DGRV cooperation capacity building workshop for the entire co-operative movement in Kenya through their representatives in May, 2017. The purpose and objective of the workshop was to understand the concepts gamification and e-learning and how to apply both in testing of knowledge in an exciting way, based on multiple choice questions.

Speaking while presiding over the closure of the workshop, the University’s Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kamau Ngamau lauded the concept of eLearning and gamification being adopted in Kenya’s Co-operative movement terming it as a revolutionary insight to the movement. He noted that the uptake of ICTs in the Kenya’s Co-operative movement was low compared to other sectors of the economy. He noted that the movement will grow faster with integration of ICTS.

The workshop was a follow up of our first workshop which was held sometimes last year. It is therefore a hands-on workshop to understand and produce items, put them online and play the cooperative-knowledge game (please bring on Monday your laptops!).

In collaboration with The Co-operative University’s Directorate of ELearning and Computing, and the international gamification expert Leo Reif (yeepa-platform), the Co-operative Alliance of Kenya (CAK) designed this workshop to develop a CAK-DGRV modular Training Program. The Government of Kenya and the Federal Republic of Germany are in a partnership project, which was titled “German – Kenyan Association Partnership in the Cooperative Sector (DGRV – CAK)”.  Since then the two national federations; Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK) and German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Federation (DGRV) are jointly implementing. The participants include trainers from three pilot regions. (Borabu, Kirinyaga and Kakamega), county coop officers and national coop officers, members from Nacos and staff member of CUK.
