John M. Kihoro has been promoted to full Professorship in the area of Applied Statistics at The Co-operative University of Kenya. Prof. Kihoro was appointed as an Associate Professor of the then The Co-operative University College of Kenya in 2013 and since then he has been able to fulfill the revised Commission of University Education (CUE) criteria for the new appointment. Prof Kihoro holds a PhD in Statistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya and has 18 years in University Teaching, Research and Consultancy. He has supervised and mentored more than 30 students both at Doctoral and Master’s Degree Levels and has more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals.  In addition, Prof. John Kihoro has worn several research grants including European Union (EU) ACP-EU EDULINK II Project in 2014.

He initially joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in the year 2000 as a Tutorial fellow in the department of Mathematics and Statistics. This is a training position which He held as he pursued his PhD. In 2005 he was promoted to a Lecturer position and later to Senior Lecturer position in 2009 in the then Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences after having earned a DAAD sponsored for his PhD.  In November 2013 he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Applied statistics at The Co-operative University College of Kenya (CUCK) which was by then, a Constituent College of JKUAT.

He is widely consulted not only on statistical and data analysis matters but also on ICT related jobs where his passion has previously worn him national and international recognition; Some of them include; Kenya Education Network (KENET) innovation Champion of the year (2012), Distinguished Scholar Award (DSA)-2013 ICTAK AWARDS for Kenya @50, Visiting lecturer to University of South Africa (UNISA)-College of Science, Engineering and Technology (2013),  to present and make a demo on: “Automatic generation of Quizzes and Tests in Interactive PDFs for effective electronic teaching and learning of Mathematics” and Consultant Trainer on MOODLE LMS and eLearning EDULINK eLEFANS (elefans.org) from 2014 to 2016.

At CUK, Prof. Kihoro is the Director at the Directorate of E Learning and Computing.
