Prof. Kamau Ngamau, the Ag Vice Chancellor at The Co-operative University of Kenya, was previously serving as the Deputy Principal Academic Affairs of the former CUCK. He is a Professor of Horticulture at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He served in various capacities at JKUAT rising through the ranks from an Assistant Lecturer in 1993, to Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in 2013. Administratively, Professor Ngamau has held the positions of Chair of Horticulture Department, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Director Board of Postgraduate Studies at JKUAT among other responsibilities which he performed with distinction.
He has numerous publications in internationally refereed journals, supervised many Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students successfully. He is recognized research scientist and consultant in Horticulture. He has further attended and presented seminar papers in various Local and International workshops and Conferences on cross cutting issues in Higher Education and in his area of expertise.
Prof. Ngamau, an alumnus of Nairobi School, is a holder of Doctor of Philosophy in Horticultural Sciences of the University of Hanover, Germany, a Master of Science degree in Horticulture and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture of the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He holds a second Master degree in Organizational Development from USIU, Kenya.
Prof. Esther Magiri
Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance Planning and Administration
Prof. E. Magiri is the Ag. DVC, Finance, Planning and Administration at The Co-operative University of Kenya. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at JKUAT. Prof. Magiri is a renowned research scientist, widely published, consulted and read in her science specialization. Prior to working at The Co-operative University of Kenya, she started her career as a high school in mid 80’s and later, after her master’s degree in 1993, she started working in JKUAT as an Assistant Lecturer in 1995, in the department of Biological Sciences. She rose through the ranks since then in the positions of a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Deputy Director in the JKUAT’s Nairobi Campus, Director Academic Programs, JKUAT, and Nairobi Campus to being the Principal of JKUAT’S Westland’s Campus.
She has successfully supervised several undergraduate students, postgraduates; Masters and PhD students and has completed number of funded research proposals by various organizations including KEMRI, JKUAT, UNESCO, Israel, and DAAD among others.
Prof. Magiri, a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Tel Aviv University in Israel, is also a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Molecular Biology in Plant Pathology, Zhejiang University, China, a MSc. holder in Biochemistry, University of Nairobi, Kenya and a BSc. in Biochemistry and Zoology of the University of Nairobi.
Prof. Emily Achieng’ Akuno
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
Emily Achieng’ Akuno is a Professor of Music at the Technical University of Kenya. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Kingston University, Surrey, UK, a Master of Music of the Northwestern State University, Louisiana, USA and Bachelor of Education (Arts) of Kenyatta University, Kenya.
Prof. Achieng’ Akuno has over 30 years University level Teaching, Research and Administration experience. She has served in various senior and middle level management capacities here in Kenya and abroad, including Kenyatta University, Maseno University and the Technical University of Kenya and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. She has successfully supervised and mentored over 30 postgraduate students both Doctoral and Masters degree levels.
Trained as a performer-educator, Prof. Achieng’ Akuno is actively involved in the music and music education scene in Kenya and internationally. An astute researcher currently working on a music for literacy development project, she is widely published and read with over 40 academic works in refereed journals, books and conference proceedings. Her academic engagements and contributions include the development over the years many music curricula for Universities and middle level colleges across nations, presentations at and facilitation of local and international conferences seminars and workshops in music and arts education and practice. As a professional, she is a member of the International Society for Music Education (ISME), where she has served as a board Member, Interim Secretary General and as member and Chair of the organisation’s Music in the School and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC). She is also Treasurer of the International Music Council, the Paris-based UNESCO-affiliated NGO umbrella organisation of worldwide music organisations and bodies. Further, she serves in the Steering Committee of the International Network for Research in Arts Education, INRAE.
Prof. Isaac K. Nyamongo
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Co-operative Development, Research and Innovation
Isaac K. Nyamongo is a Professor of Anthropology. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Florida, USA and has close to 30 years in Teaching, Research and Consultancy. He has supervised and mentored more than 40 students both at Doctoral and Masters Levels.
Prof. Nyamongo has held research and training grants from many organizations including the European Union, World Health Organization, International Development Research Center, Wenner Gren Foundation and Toyota Foundation among others.
His research and training experience spans several countries within the Africa region including Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea. Prof. Nyamongo has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals.

Mr. David BOtiende
Registrar Academic Affairs
Mr. David Boge Otiende is the Registrar Academic Affairs of The Co-operative University of Kenya. He is PhD Student at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He holds a Master of Education Degree in Administration and a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree in both from Kenyatta University.
Prior to his appointment as a substantive Registrar, Mr. Otiende served as the Ag. Registrar Academic Affairs and the Deputy Director Academic Affairs of the former Co-operative University College of Kenya and Co-operative College of Kenya respectively.
Having begun his career in 1986 as a high school teacher, Mr. Otiende has served in different capacities in the Ministry of Education having risen to the positions of Assistant Director of Education, and Senior Assistant Director of Education at the Ministry of Education before joining the Co-operative College of Kenya as the Deputy Director, Academic Affairs
Registrar Finance Planning and Administration
Mr. Chris Kathoka is the Registrar Finance Planning and Administration at The Co-operative University of Kenya. Prior, he served as the Ag. Registrar FPA, and the Principal Human Resources Manager, a position held since 2013. Prior to his experience at The Co-operative University of Kenya, Chris served in the Human Resources Department at JKUAT in various positions rising through the ranks to become the Ag. Deputy Registrar. He is also a member of Institute of Human Resource Management, (HRM).
In both Universities, he has served in various committees of the University, crafted several policy documents and attended trainings in several professional courses and programs. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Human Resource Management at JKUAT, holds a Master Degree in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, JKUAT. He has several years’ experience in administration which is his career.
Ag. Principal Human Resource Manager
Mmata is the Ag. Principal Human Resource Manager at The Co-operative University of Kenya. Prior to her appointment to this position, Mmata served as a substantive Assistant Registrar, HR. She also served as Administrative and Senior Administrative Assistant Human Resource at the Jomo Kenyatta University Agriculture and Technology, a position she had served from 2007 to 2013. Prior to her career at the University, she served briefly as a graduate teacher at Cedar Grove Academy.
She holds a Higher Diploma in Human Resource of the College of Human Resource Management (CHRM), where she is a full member, a Master Degree Business Administration of the Jomo Kenyatta University Agriculture and Technology. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She has undergone an array of professional trainings including an authority certification training program for addiction professionals, an ISO 9001: 2008 Quality management system awareness and internal quality auditors. She has also undergone a full basic counselling course.
Mr. Maxwell Nyaga
Mr. Maxwel Nyaga is the Finance Officer of The Co-operative University of Kenya. He is a PhD student in Business Administration (Finance) in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture And Technology. He is a specialist both in Finance and Procurement, having studied and qualified with Master Degree in Business administration, Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPA (K). Mr. Nyagah also holds a second Master of Science degree in Procurement and Logistics.
Prior to working at the Co-operative University College of Kenya, Mr. Nyagah served in various positions at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture And Technology. He rose from the rank of an Accounts Assistant to an Accountant, Internal auditor, Head of Procurement and finally to the position Deputy Chief Procurement Officer in JKUAT. He has over eighteen (18) years working experience at the Core of University business operations.
Ag. Dean of Students
Lucinda G. Mugaa (Mrs.) is the Ag. Dean of Students at The Co-operative University of Kenya. She is a PhD student in Human Resource Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). She holds a Master Degree in Sociology (Labor Management) and a Bachelor Degree in Psychology (Counseling) both from the University of Nairobi. Further she holds another Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the United States International University, Kenya (USIU)
Lucinda has vast work experience having worked in different organizations and institutions in various capacities. She has worked with Co-operative Bank of Kenya as both a Branch Manager and Head of Customer Care.
She has also worked in various institutions of higher learning; Mt. Kenya University as part time lecturer, and Management University of Africa (MUA) as a part time lecturer.
She is a member of BUSCO, and professional Counselors of Kenya.
