Vision: To be a center of excellence in academic quality assurance, promoting continuous improvement, innovation, and globally competitive education.
Mission: To ensure and enhance the quality of teaching, learning, research, and academic processes through effective monitoring, evaluation, capacity building, and adherence to national and international quality standards.
Motto: Excellence through continuous improvement.
Strategic Objectives
The Directorate of Academic Quality Assurance is guided by clear strategic priorities aimed at strengthening institutional quality, regulatory compliance, and academic excellence across the University.
- Carry out at least one evaluation of effectiveness of teaching in all campuses every semester
- Evaluate all new academic programmes in line with the requirements of the Commission for University Education (CUE) and other regulatory organizations
- Analyze and prepare consolidated reports on teaching and learning of postgraduate students
- Organize two sensitization workshops for academic staff on academic quality assurance within the year
- Participate in all quality assurance workshops organized by CUE and any other regulatory organization
Functions of DAQA
Policy Compliance & Alignment
Ensure that university academic policies comply and align with the requirements of the Commission for University Education (CUE) and other external academic quality assurance, regulatory, and legal frameworks.
Quality Management Frameworks
Develop academic quality management frameworks and policies to promote the standards of University awards and the quality of the student experience across the University.
Teaching Evaluation & Assessment
Develop policies and guidelines on teaching evaluation, programme review, and student learning assessment.
Policy Effectiveness Review
Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures and ensure that they promote quality assurance, excellence, and enhancement across departments and schools.
Liaison with Regulatory Bodies
Provide a liaison role for the University in maintaining and developing relationships with CUE and other related bodies.
Regulatory Monitoring
Monitor changes in the national regulatory framework for quality assurance and developments in the higher education sector, and propose appropriate institutional responses.
Workshops & External Engagement
Participate in all quality assurance workshops organized by CUE and any other related regulatory organization.
Staff Capacity Building
Identify and meet training needs of staff in areas of academic quality assurance, frameworks, and procedures.
Programme & Course Support
Advise and support programme and course approval, development, and review.
External Examiners’ Reports
Identify quality assurance concerns arising from external examiners’ reports on examinations, research, theses, and projects, and bring them to the attention of University management and Senate.
Programme Compliance Review
Evaluate the compliance of all new and reviewed academic programmes with the requirements of CUE and any other related regulatory organization.
Quality in Outreach & Consultancy
Ensure that community service, outreach, and consultancy activities related to training and research comply with University quality assurance standards and requirements.
Advice to Senate
Advise the Senate on the University’s response to national and external quality enhancement initiatives where appropriate.
Follow-Up on External Reviews
Ensure appropriate follow-up action arising from reports issued by external quality agencies.
Review Procedures
Determine procedures for the review of courses, subjects, and services, and consider the reports arising from such reviews.
Quality Policy Advisory
Advise on the formulation and review of matters of quality regarding policies, procedures, mechanisms, processes, and academic regulations.
Internal Quality Assurance Liaison
Advise and liaise with UQAC and S/C/D/IQAC on matters touching on academic quality assurance.
