Who is the PI?

The Principal Investigator (PI) is the person in charge of the research project and is responsible for the conduct of the study. e.g. A student carrying out their academic research study is a PI. In the case of a large research project that has many researchers, PI is the team leader of the research team.

 

What is the ethical review process?

The ethical review process is an evaluation carried out to scrutinize the ethical aspects and considerations of research projects that involve human participants. It is undertaken by the CUK – ISERC as an accredited independent entity.

 

When do I seek ethical approval?

Ethical approval should be obtained prior to the commencement of any data gathering activities. For students, this usually takes place after the successful defense of their research proposal.

 

Do you assist in getting NACOSTI permit?

We do not directly assist in obtaining a NACOSTI permit, but we can guide you to the appropriate online platform for application.

 

How long is the review process?

The standard review process typically takes around 14 business days once the project has been allocated to a reviewer for evaluation. This could also take less time.

 

How long is the expedited review process?

For an expedited review, it usually takes between 4 to 5 business days after the project has been assigned to a reviewer. This is determined off our SOPs.

 

Do you assist students in obtaining an introductory letter?

We don’t assist with securing introductory letters; that is generally handled by your class / course administrator or institution of your affiliation.
