The CUK Alumni Awards celebrate the extraordinary achievements of our graduates who embody the spirit of excellence, innovation, leadership, and service. Each award highlights alumni who have made remarkable contributions to their professions, communities, and to The Co-operative University of Kenya. Through these awards, we recognize alumni who continue to uphold the cooperative values of integrity, responsibility, and community empowerment.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Objective:

To honour alumni who have achieved outstanding professional excellence and global recognition in their field.

  • Proven career milestones, leadership positions, or professional awards.
  • Tangible contributions to industry, academia, or global society.
  • Evidence of thought leadership through publications or keynote engagements.
  • Endorsements from peers or professional bodies.

Alumni Service Award

Objective:

To recognize alumni who have shown exceptional voluntary service to the University or alumni community.

  • Documented voluntary service hours and initiatives undertaken.
  • Leadership in alumni events, mentorship, or association activities.
  • Tangible outcomes such as chapter growth or mentorship success.

Philanthropy & Resource Mobilization Award

Objective:

To acknowledge alumni who have contributed significant financial, material, or intellectual resources to the University.

  • Monetary or in-kind contributions verifiable through official records.
  • Consistency of support whether one-time or sustained.
  • Impact of contributions on scholarships, infrastructure, or research.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Award

Objective:

To celebrate alumni who have created impactful innovations, enterprises, or startups.

  • Evidence of innovation such as patents or new products.
  • Entrepreneurial success through business growth or job creation.
  • Societal or economic impact, addressing local or global challenges.

Community Impact Award

Objective:

To honour alumni who have made extraordinary contributions to society or humanitarian causes.

  • Measurable community outcomes from projects or campaigns.
  • Volunteerism and service leadership.
  • Partnerships with organizations for societal good.

Emerging Leader / Young Alumni Award

Objective:

To recognize alumni within ten years of graduation who demonstrate exceptional promise in leadership, innovation, or civic engagement.

  • Early career achievements or leadership roles.
  • Contributions to innovation or civic initiatives.
  • Recognition through awards, fellowships, or accolades.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Objective:

To celebrate alumni who have made sustained, long-term contributions to their profession, society, and the University.

  • Documented career spanning at least 25 years with milestones.
  • Sustained contributions to university advancement.
  • Recognized leadership in national or international spheres.

Nomination and Selection Process

Alumni, faculty, staff, and students are invited to nominate individuals for consideration in any award category. Self-nominations are permitted. Members of the alumni executive are not eligible while in active service.

  • Call for Nominations: Published annually by the Alumni Engagement Office in consultation with the alumni executive.
  • Evaluation: Nominations assessed based on evidence and scored using a standardized rubric.
  • Approval: Final list of awardees endorsed by the University Management Board.
  • Revocation: The University reserves the right to recall or withhold an award if necessary.

Recognition and Benefits

  • Presentation of the award at the Annual Alumni Dinner or Graduation Ceremony.
  • Engraved trophy or medal and official citation.
  • Public recognition in University and alumni media.
  • Inclusion in the CUK Alumni Hall of Fame (digital or physical).
  • Invitations to serve as brand ambassadors, mentors, or guest lecturers.
