Resource of the Week: JSTOR

JSTOR provides access to more than 12 million journal articles, books, images, and primary sources in 75 disciplines. JSTOR has introduced new tools for research that provide new ways to explore and research. Workspace enables students and researchers to save, annotate, and organize images and text-based works, create PowerPoint presentations, export content as PDFs, and more. Text Analyzer allows you to upload your own text to find relevant content. The Understanding Series allows you to pick a passage from a growing list of widely studied works and discover content in JSTOR referencing that passage.

Proquest is a rich database of up-to-date e-books that cover various disciplines. Students need to register on RemoteXs in in order to access Ebrary books and other online resources. Unlike other databases, Proquest requires one to create a personal account to facilitate downloading of books and use of other features such as creation of a virtual bookshelf. The CUK Institutional Repository

The CUK Institutional Repository (IR) is a digital collection of the research generated by faculty, students, administrators and all members affiliated with the CUK community. The repository contains research papers, books and book chapters, conference papers and postgraduate theses and projects. The IR is registered on Open Directory of Open Access Repositories(OpenDOAR). What are the benefits of archiving my research in the IR? Do You Need Help With Citing and Referencing?

Why should I cite and acknowledge my sources? Research ethics requires that one acknowledges the contribution that other scholars have made to their work. In-text citations are brief references in the running text that direct readers to the reference list. Citations ensure that the requisite acknowledgement and credit due to the original author is accorded. Citation and reference management tools However, trying to figure out where the commas and full stops should be placed in a reference is not only tedious but time consuming as well. There are also instances where you may not remember the source of a certain phrase which makes it very frustrating and challenging to cite and reference. Zotero and Mendeley reference management tools are free software that aid in automatic citation and referencing and in the management of your sources. Zotero Citation and Reference Management Tool

Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool that helps you collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share research. Zotero generates citations and bibliography/reference lists automatically. Installing and citing with Zotero Download and install the Zotero application for your operating system. Close Word before you run the installer so it can install the Word toolbar/plugin. Click the “Install Connector” link for your browser and follow the instructions. The connector appears as an extension on your browser. Add documents to the Zotero Library by using the Zotero connector or by adding PDFs from your computer. To add a PDF from your computer, click on the green icon with a plus symbol (+) on the Zotero application.
