Rationale of the Programme
Needs Assessment/Market Survey
A survey was carried out to determine the gaps in the market on business skills during the month of January to August 2015.The instruments used were questionnaires, interview guide and reports from students on attachment. The target group included Microfinance institutions, banks, Sacco’s, insurance companies, marketing companies, investment firms and lectures from universities. The outcome of the survey showed that 80% of the respondents agreed that there was a need to complements personnel with technical knowledge with managerial skills to make them effective managers in a dynamic organizational environment. Admission and Qualifications
Candidates wishing to study for Masters degree must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements for the University Senate and School of Business and Economics requirements for admission.
A candidate must satisfy’ any of the following minimum requirements: Either
- Be a holder of a bachelor’s degree with at least Upper Second Class honours in any
discipline or its equivalent from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
Or
- Be a holder of a Bachelors degree with Lower Second Class honours in any discipline
provided the candidate can show proven evidence of research ability or three (3) years relevant experience in a relevant field.
Or
- Be a holder of a bachelor’s degree at pass level in any discipline from a recognized University with five (5) years post qualification experience. If less than five (5) years, the holder must have a Diploma with Credit in a relevant field from Kenya National Examinations Council and any other institution recognized by the University Senate.
- Credit transfers and exceptions may apply to applicants who have completed masters course units at other senate recognized university with approval of the senate.
The University and board of post graduate regulation shall apply.
Regulations oncredit transfer in the programme
There shall be a provision for transfer from or to an MBA programme from one University to another:-
- Students may transfer from MBA programme in other universities recognized by Commission for University Education (CUE).
- The maximum number of credits that may be transferred is 50% of the courses other than the research project (24 credits or the equivalent in the other university’s system).
- The lowest grade for acceptable transfer for individual courses is C or equivalent.
- Students desiring to receive credit for any prior course will need to make a formal request that will include:
- A list of relevant master course for which the student is interested in getting credit;
- Official transcripts, indicating courses that may be equivalent and;
- Description and syllabus/outlines for the courses previously taken and passed.
- All those seeking to transfer credits will be required to pay an appropriate fee.
- In addition, there may be an exemption examination.
