The Co-operative University College of Kenya has awarded certificates to women participants who had taken part in a capacity training programme at the Co-operative University College in Nairobi in December last year. The women who were drawn from all the Sub Counties were taught on table banking, cooperate management among other skills. This is part of the County Government’s broad plan of empowering women at the grassroots with the necessary knowledge to enable them take part in economically viable activities.
Speaking during the ceremony that took place at the Kisii Cultural Center, on 27th January 2015, Governor Ongwae thanked Prof. Gicheru, Director of CUCK’s ICDRE, for the curriculum that he said had been prepared specifically to meet the needs of the women groups’ leaders. The women were urged to sensitize their members on the available business opportunities and encourage them to engage in activities that will empower them economically.
The County Commissioner thanked the women leaders for their continued support to various peace initiatives and for being peace agents in society. Governor Ongwae also noted that the Government will offer more training opportunities for women as they play a key role in development of the society.
